A literacy event at the Home Depot Backyard. Hoping to bring books to life for kids in the area, the immersive event gave children the opportunity to literally see themselves inside the stories.

Yesterday, organizers gave kids a chance to take part in several reading events. each activation area is based on children's books that were presented at the event. now the goal is to close the literacy gap for minority minority children by sharing more stories.

The $10,000 grant from Ingram allows Young Authors Publishing to publish their remaining books that will be available for purchase in March 2021. Ingram’s new printing model also allows YAP to publish titles in a way that both benefits the young authors, and the organization by preparing them for the 2021 publishing year.

Young Authors develops a sales and marketing strategy so that books can be sold nationally and globally. Royalties from the young authors’ book sales are deposited into a secured savings account for them to access at the age of 18 to use towards their post-secondary plans.

"Innovation in publishing, while most of us have been working from home, has been a challenge since the pandemic," said Milliot. "Imagination and creativity become even more important when face-to-face communication is filtered through the screen of videoconferences"

The eight-week experience program teaches our young authors how to write their children’s books and the fundamentals of financial literacy. After the program, their children’s books are published with distribution across Barnes & Noble Amazon and various bookstores and libraries throughout the city.

Hernandez cares deeply about her Atlanta community, Vine City, and recently started a new youth program, the Young Authors Program, which gives middle school students the necessary tools to write their first book.
