Author Spotlight Series: Grant Geddes & “Angela Makes a Friend”

In Angela Makes a Friend (2022), protagonist, Angela, is terrified of making new friends. However, Gracie, Angela’s imaginary friend, helps her as she learns to gain social skills. As Angela and Gracie navigate this journey, readers of all ages are encouraged to step outside their comfort zone and embrace change.


In an interview with Young Authors Publishing Assistant Editor, Brooke Shannon, author Grant Geddes discussed the inspiration behind his narrative, overcoming new environments, and more.


Brooke Shannon: What inspired you to write your book?


Grant Geddes: I was inspired by people who needed help making friends and entering new environments.


BS: What was one takeaway about writing you discovered while writing your book?


GG: I discovered that if you really just get your ideas down, you can really make something great.

BS: Who is your favorite author and why?


GG: C. S. Lewis. From a young age, I started reading his books and he had such an imaginative mind. It was filled with wonder and delight.


BS: What do you hope readers will take away from your book?


GG: I hope readers learn how to make new friends and how to deal with the different challenges that come with new social spaces.  


BS: What advice would you give to young authors or creatives?


GG: No matter what you do… if you have an idea, work on that idea, build on that idea, and don’t stop until you’ve got a finished product that you truly love.
